Animal Shelter To Hold Poker Run

The Concordia Animal Welfare Shelter and Rescue will be holding a poker run on Lake Saint John on Saturday, Sept. 30 to raise funds.

Proceeds from the poker run will go to the animal welfare institution, to help with the shelter expenses such as feeding and veterinary care of the animals according to CAWS director Lisa Smith.

"This is a great way for people and their pets to have lots of fun, win some money and win prizes, and the cost is for a good cause," Smith said. Poker run participants can buy packets that will contain a map of the lake with pier stops and accompanying official game rules at the Dock from 6-10 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The entrants will have 45 minutes to get to each of the stops and pick up their poker cards. At the end of the contest, the participants will have to make the best hand of five out of their six cards.

The first placer will get a 15 percent share of the purse, second placer 10 percent, and third, five percent. Entry fee for the contest is $25 per watercraft and an additional $25 for every extra hand purchased. Pets will be allowed to play for free giving them a chance to win prizes.
